Rural schools and clinics have limited access to clean, potable water for use by staff and students or patients. Costs are high in reticulating treated potable water from treatment plants to such establishments, and in many cases, there aren't any treatment plants in the area KwaZulu Natal is heading for a drought (see Figures 1.1 and 1.2) which only serves to make the problem worse for primary water storage and supply. It is important to conserve and properly store the precious resource of water in a cost-effective and safe manner. Normal methods of water storage, treatment and reticulation to rural communities are expensive, and where the primary source for the water is a river, will be particularly sensitive to drought and hygiene conditions
